FAQ’s
-
What do I do as a personal trainer? I create customized workout plans that come with how to videos for every exercise to provide guidance on proper techniques to help clients reach their fitness goals.
-
Do I need to be fit before hiring a personal trainer? Not at all! I work with all fitness levels and help clients start from where they are and take them as far as they want to go.
-
How often should I work out with a personal trainer? It depends on your goals and fitness level—some train twice a week, while others train multiple times a week for faster progress. For optimal progress 4 days a week is best for muscle stimulation and growth.
-
Will I help with nutrition? Nutrition is 80% - 90% of fitness. How far will a car drive if it’s out of gas or has the wrong fuel in it? I offer general nutrition advice, macros (how much protein, carbohydrates, and fats to eat). I will teach you how to keep track of all of it.
-
What should I expect in the first session? The first session is a free 30-minute phone or zoom call where I will assess your fitness level, discuss goals, and how best to help you with your nutrition so that I can develop a plan for you to be able to get started.
Exercise & Training Questions
-
How long does it take to see the results? Results vary, but noticeable improvements often appear within 16 weeks with consistent training and proper nutrition.
-
Do you recommend supplements? Although I do believe in the use of some supplements, I believe everyone has their own opinions around supplements. I don’t go crazy with supplementation. I believe it is best to get as much of your nutrition from food as possible, however it is very difficult to do based on the quality of food available to us now. It depends on your goals as to what supplements I would suggest.
-
Can personal training help with weight loss? Yes! I design workouts and guide lifestyle habits to support fat loss and muscle building.
-
What type of exercises will we do? It depends on your goals and the equipment you have available. Sessions will include strength training, cardio, flexibility, and mobility exercises.
-
Is weightlifting necessary for fitness? Yes, strength training is beneficial for overall health, but I adjust workouts based on your comfort level and objectives. The older we get the more important it is to maintain and continue to build muscles as we lose 3% of our muscle mass every 10 years over the age of forty if we don’t consistently work on strength training. Plus, the more muscles you have the better your metabolism will be.
-
Do I need gym equipment? Not necessarily—I can create effective bodyweight and banded workouts or suggest home-friendly equipment.
Safety & Practical Questions
-
What if I have an injury or medical condition? Although I am not a Physical Therapist, I have 15 years personal experience working with Physical Therapists both with my own injuries (torn ACL, bone spur and torn rotator cuff in my shoulder, herniated disk L-5/S1) and other client’s injuries. I modify exercises to accommodate injuries and medical conditions, prioritizing safety.
-
Is personal training worth the cost? The LA Times recently posted an article on the importance of strength training and hiring a Personal Trainer, especially as we get older to help maintain muscle and improve balance as we age. If accountability, motivation, and expert guidance are important to you, personal training is a great investment in your health!
-
How do I find the right trainer for me? Look for certifications, experience, and a training style that aligns with your personality and fitness goals.
-
What happens if I miss a session? The beauty of an online training program is that it is there for you to do whenever it is most convenient for you. If you are traveling or get sick and you miss a workout you simply, do it on another day or just skip it and move along with your program to stay on track.
-
Do I need to commit long-term? I offer flexible plans. I feel the best one is my 16-week program. This program is long enough that you should be able to develop consistency and with that see the best results. If you are happy with your progress, then we can move on from there.
